Apéritif is a cheap fine dining restaurant in the area of Ubud with the nicest hotels – those with helipads and everything. They serve Michelin-like quality food and provide excellent service in a beautiful restaurant. As the prices in Bali are generally very cheap, you can get a high end dining experience for as little as 150 €. There is a dresscode (no flip-flops, dress nice) and you will need to book before hand. You can view their menu and book a table at their website.

What can you expect?

Personally, I would often prefer a less fancy meal, but this sure was an experience to remember. The waiters in suits welcomed us and seated us to the bar for snacks and welcome drinks. The bartender was very chatty, and discovering we were from Denmark, he became pretty excited. He obviously knew Copenhagen for Noma – the worlds best restaurant. After the intro at the bar and a tasty welcome from the chef followed 8 delicious courses and some petit fours back at the bar. During the main courses we would choose from 5 different kinds of bread, 3 kinds of butter and 10 different steak knives from different countries. There was so many waiters discretely standing by, also ready to provide the customers what they needed.

After 3 hours of culinary treatment we paid as little as 4.961.000 rupiah (290 €) for the both of us including wine, a coffee and a drink. For reference, such an experience in Copenhagen would cost you anywhere from 500-1.000 €.

A strong recommendation if you want to fine dine for affordable price.

How to get here?

Ubud is located in the jungles in the middle of the Island. You will need to get a taxi or a driver to get here, or look for a bus on 12go (sponsored). The drive from the airport in Denpasar is a little more than one hour (but it could be way more in heavy traffic!). Once you are in Ubud, Apéritif is not far. Just get a Grab or a Taxi to get there.

You can book a personal driver on GetYourGuide (sponsored link) in advance. This is a also a great way to get around outside Ubud, if you wish to see some of the many waterfalls. You can decide where and when you want to go, and they are very helpful with tips and photos.

Where to stay?

Ubud is a haven for tourist, so you will find plenty of both very cheap hostels and nicer hotels with infinity pools, spa treatments and more. Either way, it will not be very expensive.
