Campuhan Ridge Walk is a beautiful and very accessible hiking trail with it’s trail head very close to the center of Ubud. The hike is about 3,7 km out and back with an elevation of just 110 meters. The path is paved with large tiles, and you can walk it in either direction, and arrange for a ride to take you home from either end of the trail. It can however get very hot and humid in Ubud and the hike provides very little shade, so do bring plenty of water and consider going early in the day.

Ubud is know for its many canyons and rice terraces. Along the Campuhan Ridge Walk you will see both, as you will hike along the ridge of a canyon. From the south end, you can look down to the river from the bridge on Jl. Raya (street name). To get to the trail, get off the road next to the Warwick Ibah Luxury Villas and Spa (location on map) and go down the stairs to the left. As you make it along the path, you will leave the traffic and noise behind, and walk through jungle-like scenery, with the river below you to the right. Eventually you will you higher up, where you can look over the canyon and enjoy the view. Towards the end of the trail the scenery changes, and you will walk along the rice fields, and through small gates and temples before you can treat yourself to a Bali Coffee or some ice cream at some of the small cafés by the end.

You will be able to find more challenging hikes and prettier views than here, but as the Campuhan Ridge Walk is short and close to the city, I recommend take a walk here, if you choose to stay in Ubud. We spent 1 hour on the hike including a few water and photo breaks.

How to get here?

Ubud is located in the jungles in the middle of the Island. You will need to get a taxi or a driver to get here, or look for a bus on 12go (sponsored). The drive from the airport in Denpasar is a little more than one hour (but it could be way more in heavy traffic!). Once you are in Ubud, Campuhan Ridge Walk is likely to be within walking disctance from your hotel, or you can get a Grab or a Taxi.

You can book a personal driver on GetYourGuide (sponsored link) in advance. This is a also a great way to get around outside Ubud, if you wish to see some of the many waterfalls. You can decide where and when you want to go, and they are very helpful with tips and photos.

Where to stay?

Ubud is a haven for tourist, so you will find plenty of both very cheap hostels and nicer hotels with infinity pools, spa treatments and more. Either way, it will not be very expensive.
